For a little winter escape we headed to Bath and we stayed at The Yard, a boutique hotel that felt more like staying in a stylish friend’s historic townhouse than a typical hotel. Tucked into the heart of the city, The Yard is charming, cozy, and full of character, offering the kind of high-quality experience that makes you feel immediately at home. We chose it mainly for its location (you can walk absolutely everywhere), but we ended up loving it for so many more reasons.

The Room
We stayed in one of the upper-level rooms, which was thoughtfully designed and delightfully comfortable. The bed was incredibly comfortable, imagine ‘sleep-past-your-alarm’ comfortable. Each room is a little different in layout and size, think of it more like staying in a well-curated home than a cookie-cutter hotel. Ours had character in spades, though it’s worth noting, if you’re traveling with lots of luggage, be mindful of room size and storage when booking. Some rooms even have their own little roof terrace, which we imagine would be lovely in the warmer months.

The Property
The Yard is quaint in the best way, boutique, intimate, and full of charm. The winding staircases and narrow hallways give it the feel of a country home rather than a commercial hotel. There’s no spa or flashy facilities, but the overall ambiance is serene and inviting. It’s a hidden gem that strikes a rare balance between cozy and upscale.
There’s also a small bar onsite, although it’s not always staffed, so if you’re dreaming of a lively hotel bar scene, this may not be the spot for that. However, if you’re one for quiet nights in with a glass of something good this is perfect.

And we have to give a special shoutout to the staff. Every single person we encountered was genuinely friendly, warm, and eager to help, whether it was offering local recommendations or sorting parking logistics. That kind of service makes all the difference, especially in a small boutique setting like this.
Food and Drink
One of our favorite touches was the breakfast. Instead of a buffet or dining room setup, each morning a beautifully curated breakfast hamper appears at your door. Inside were locally sourced pastries, fresh juice, yogurt, granola, spreads. It’s equal parts adorable and delicious. Honestly, we wish more hotels did this as it’s such a thoughtful way to start the day, especially if you want a lazy morning in bed before heading out to explore.

Points, Perks and Booking Details
The Yard in Bath is not part of any big loyalty program, but it felt like great value for the quality and location. If you’re driving into Bath, parking is limited and needs to be arranged ahead of time, definitely ring in advance to secure a spot. We had no issues in winter, but we can imagine that summertime might be more competitive. Just another reason to plan ahead.
The Bottom Line
Would we stay at The Yard again? In a heartbeat. It’s ideal for couples looking for a quiet, design-forward base with a personal touch. The location is unbeatable, the rooms are cozy and chic, and that breakfast hamper alone might be enough to bring us back. It’s not flashy, and it’s not trying to be, it’s the kind of place that wins you over with heart, not hype. A true hidden gem in Bath.
